I live in New Zealand where we are lucky enough to get imports from Japan fairly cheaply. I looked around Christchurch for a few months with no luck and I eventually found this one at a dealer in Ashburton. It had 96000 km on the clock and I paid $5000 ($2200 USD approx) which is a pretty good price. I had to replace the cambelt and I fitted an alarm. I have since replaced the clutch and added some performance modifications.
The engine is a first generation B16A, producing 160 Horsepower or 119 KW. The newer version produces 170 HP due to a bigger throttle body (60mm) higher compression ratio (10.4) and more aggressive camshafts.
Automatic versions of the B16A are detuned with a less aggressive camshaft profile and a detuned ECU. They also have single valve springs on the intake valves rather than the double intake springs on the manual
So far I have added a cold air intake 2.25 inch exhaust with 4 inch tip, changed the spark plugs, coil and wires, and have done some general maintenance such as fuel filter, transmission oil, cv boots, tires, and of course engine oil every 10 000 km.
I have replaced my stock ignition coil with a MSD unit. I have also installed a Field SFC VTEC controller, an Oil catch can, a 63mm Throttle body , a pair of CTR cams and Skunk 2 cam gears, and have replaced the rear trailing arm bushes. More recently I have replaced my shock absorbers with Koni, removed the keyholes, installed adjustable coilovers and an Ingalls Camber kit.
This website has been gradually growing since I started it in early 2002. Originally I was simply documenting modifications and repairs to my car but I decided to publish it when I began to discover others were interested in the information. If you need help or have a how-to relating to Honda B series VTEC engines, or DA or DC2R Integras you can
email me.While all care is taken to provide correct information, mistakes are occasionally made and I cannot be responsible for any damage that occurs to readers vehicles.
