How to: DA Integra Resonator Removal
This is a free and easy mod and should be one of the first things you do to your car, if it isn't done already. Also, it's completely reversible so you can stick it all back together if you want to sell the car.
For starters, you DON'T NEED TO TAKE OFF THE BUMPER. You can if you want, some people think it's easier and faster but it only took me about 10 minutes and I left the bumper alone.
If you're changing the filter you need to undo the four clips around the factory air box and lift it off the bottom half, exposing the filter. Take the old filter out, for more power gains you can replace this with a K&N filter which are about $150 from Repco. They last forever so it's a good investment.
With the top of the air box out of the way, you can see the bolts holding the bottom half to the engine bay. There are two 10 mm bolts, undo these and the plastic box will lift out and leave a hole. The black plastic box you can see through the hole is the resonator. You can try making the hole in the bottom half of the air box larger or you can tape the filter to the top half to try to get more air to the filter.
The RED arrows show where the bolts are that need to be undone to remove the bumper.
The picture on the right shows the philips head screws that you also need to remove.
Below the two arrows on the left of the left picture there is a hole (1989-1991 Integra only) where fresh air can run through to a cold air intake if you have one. See CAI install HERE.
If you want to take the bumper off, there are 12mm bolts holding it on behind the indicators, you'll need to take those out as well as the 10mm ones under the car. To remove the indicators you need a phillips head screwdriver and you'll need an extension to reach the 12mm bolts. There are also 2 screws on each side near the wheels. With the bumper off it's easy to get to the three 10mm bolts holding the resonator in and take it out, but like I said, you don't need to because you can reach the bolts with a socket and extension. To get at it from underneath you need to undo the splashguard by removing the Philips head screws.
You do need to remove the bumper to be able to remove the intake extension which goes from the airbox to the front of the hood. There are two bolts holding it in.
If you have a cold air intake, you need to put the pod filter on before screwing the splashguard back on, you can take the horn off that side to open up the hole a bit if you want to, there's two horns and you only need one.
Please note these instructions are for my 1990 Integra, they may be slightly different for a facelift model.
