Field SFC VTEC Controller

First impressions were pretty good, the unit is smaller than I expected and came with a full length wiring loom that I wasn't expecting either, it was great not to have to buy extra wires and they were easy to run.
Installation was straightforward, just a matter of finding the right wires and soldering them well. I think you get some wire splice's included in the kit if you buy it new, I wouldn't use them anyway.
Mounting it is pretty easy also, I found a spot where it fit pretty well, just needed some double-sided tape.
Performance impressions will come later, I haven't had much time to muck around with it yet and I will have the fuel settings at +-zero until I can get it dyno tuned. One thing I did notice is that if you set the VTEC switch over point to 8000 you seem to get a big drop off in power over 5000 RPM, funny that.
The shift beep, RPM display and speed display all seem to work well, the shift beep is particularly handy especially if you don't want a monster "Steal me" tacho and shift light in your face all the time.

MSD Ignition Coil

Definitely not a compulsory upgrade for a stock b series but since I'm planning a few mods I decided to do it anyway. Installation isn't too hard as long as you solder properly and find a decent place to mount it, and as long as you have everything you need. The coil itself comes with some brass nuts, the coil wire must be bought separately.
I wasn't expecting any difference in performance and I didn't get anything noticable, . I'm sure if your standard coil was faulty it would make a difference and some people think they get better gas mileage but overall it's definitely 'optional'.
I also replaced the spark plug wires with NGK blue since I had problems with my standard ones. No problems with them yet, I'd recommend them. No problems with the NGK R spark plugs yet either.

Cold Air Intake
For my cheap cold air intake extension, go HERE
I thought it turned out pretty well, the only things to worry about would be water and rust but I don't think either of those will happen as long as I'm careful.
Obviously a one piece CAI with gentler bends will be better performance wise, but this is a pretty good compromise between price and performance, it's also quite handy to be able to switch between short-ram and cold air intake depending on what you want.

63mm Tb Page
I have just had this bored out, I originally had the standard B16A1 58 mm TB , I now have b16a2 bored from 60 to 63mm internal diameter. Spoon makes a 70mm throttle body but this would be a ridiculous size for my modifications.
This size TB is 1mm larger than the one used on the Integra type r, I believe the CTR tb is 60mm
I ordered the throttle body gasket through Honda, it took about two weeks to arrive from Japan and cost $11.75 NZD. The parts number is 16176-PR3-010 and it measures 60mm across so I'll have to remove 1.5mm off the whole way round to make it 63mm. Overall I have noticed a big increase in throttle response but I don't think power has increased since I have not port-matched the intake manifold yet.

Civic Type R Cams
Overall I haven't been entirely impressed with these cams in their current 'dropped in' state and seem to have lost some low end power. I have gained a small amount of top end but since my rev limit is still at 8200 I can't make the most of it. This will definitely change when I have my type R valvetrain installed which will be able to rev to around 8800 safely, as well as having my engine tuned on a dyno to accommodate the more aggressive cams.
I suggest anyone who decides to get CTR or ITR cams should get the type R valvetrain installed at the same time because although they should be safe with the stock revlimit, they won't make as much power as they should.

Skunk2 Adjustable Cam Gears
I got the pair of these for $499 including postage from Speedfactor in Tauranga, the set I got are anodized blue but silver and red are also available.
There are a few different brands around, Jun, TODA, AEM, to name a few. They all do a pretty good job but I've heard the AEM gears are prone to slipping due to them having only three bolts. Other gears have between four and six bolt designs.
I would definitely recommend these cam gears to anyone, they are well made and have 6 bolts which won't slip provided they are torqued to spec. They also have accurate markings which are easy to read. I have them dialed in at zero degrees at the moment because I haven't been to a dyno yet, will post HP gains then.

Type R Valvetrain
I have a set of 16 Type R valves and 16 intake valve springs (inner and outer) and I intend to get them installed, along with a port and polish.
The Type R exhaust springs and the B16A inlet springs are EXACTLY THE SAME, so you can get the stock inlet springs switched to the exhaust side and buy Type R inlet springs, this is what I'm going to do.
The Type R intake valves are 12% lighter and are larger so you have to take them to a machine shop for them to be re-seated, and you may as well get a mild port and polish while you're there so it may end up a costly exercise. If you're replacing the valve springs only, you don't necessarily need to take the head off, there is a method using compressed air through the spark plug hole to keep the valve in position
